How do I book?

Step 1 – Identify the course or activity you’d like to go on.  Where courses have dates listed, select the one you want. Where dates are not listed, think about the dates you’d like.

Step 2Use the online contact form to get in touch. Tell us which course you’d like, the course date (or dates you’d like) and the number of participants. If you have any questions about the courses, feel free to ask.

Step 3 – We’ll then contact  you within 3 working days to confirm course availability or offer alternative dates if your chosen date is fully booked. At the same time, we’ll attach a booking form for you to complete.

Step 4 – Return the booking form to us, along with a deposit or full payment and we’ll confirm your course booking.

Payments can be made either by cheque or bank transfer – full details will be provided with the booking form.

Do I need my own insurance? We have professional indemnity insurance but always recommend that you purchase your own personal accident insurance (including cancellation / curtailment insurance) for outdoor courses. If you need some guidance, please just drop us a line and we’ll point you in the right direction.

What about under 18s? We positively encourage children to participate in activities in the outdoors and we offer courses such as the Family Nature Day that are suitable for children aged 6+.  Some of our skills courses are suitable for children aged 14+.  Please contact us if you’d like to talk about the suitability of a course for children. Whatever the course or activity, anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or guardian.

Are  my details shared with other people? No. Any information you supply remains completely confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of Out There People.

What about bad weather? Bad weather happens! When there’s bad weather, mountain areas tend to amplify the severity of the conditions and this is something we take account of. Where there is bad weather, we’ll modify the course or venue to make the most of the conditions we’re presented with and try to ensure you get something out of the day. In exceptional circumstance where the weather is particularly bad, we may need to rearrange the course.

For our Photography based courses we have to be much more pragmatic – nobody (including us) is going to enjoy a day or two trying to take photos in torrential rain. Alternative dates or a refund will be offered where we believe conditions mean you won’t get the best out of a photography course.

What about transport? Where possible, we arrange to meet you at the venue from which the training will be delivered. However, some courses benefit from using more than one venue to help accelerate learning, and some will switch between outdoor and classroom sessions which may require some traveling.

It may therefore be necessary to use your own vehicle (where you have one) to travel between venues whilst you’re on a course. To minimize the number of vehicles needed, we always encourage car sharing and will facilitate this between course participants where you are happy to do this.

What about medical conditions? For us to ensure we look after you properly, it’s essential that you declare any medical conditions that could potentially affect you or would be relevant to your care whilst on the course. This information will be treated in strict confidence and is not shared with anyone else.

Is it dangerous? Outdoor adventurous activities take place in varied natural environments where there are natural hazards and risks to manage. Every effort is made by Out There People staff to provide realistic training in a safe manner – that will always be our top priority. We can help minimize risks, though neither ourselves nor any other outdoor provider can ever eliminate those risks entirely.

What about food and drink? Some courses (such as those involving wild camping) include all the food you will need, whilst others will require you to bring a packed lunch. We’ll make sure drinks and biscuits are available for any class based session and if you bring along a flask, we’ll fill them with a steaming hot drink for you!
